The use of charcoal exposes the user to a high carbon monoxide concentration levels during cooking and high quantities of nitrogen oxide. Charcoal production plays a role in global warming with the production and emission of greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide and methane. Tukundane fire lighters promote the use of clean energy and reduce global warming and the destruction of the environment.
Use of charcoal, firewood can lead the user to long term health problems caused by the smoke/gases such as cancer and breathing problems. Not only to the user but to the population as a whole.
Tukundane Fire Lighters Wealth Creation
We aim to create financial stability for our members through different skill-based training programs which in turn they can create a product that they can promote to the community to further to the wider community. Fire lighters are a low based capital product which the members can learn in a short time period with the potential of becoming a profitable product for the members.
Wealth creation puts our members in a position of better living for themselves and their families. As the members face difficulty obtaining jobs within the community due to having low to no skills, stigma within the community to their positive status. The women are usually the only if not the primary provider for their families and can find it difficult if not impossible to provide, feeding themselves and their families can be difficult not to mention trying to provide educations, essentials for the children and themselves.
Community Impact
HIV/AIDS stigma still places is (places or plays) a big role within communities in Uganda. Creating a safe space where the women can learn new skills and create team building is important in giving them confidence to be able to positively interact within the community without fear of rejection. Encouraging the community to be accepting without discrimination impacts on how the members can successfully promote the product.
